Check out the great article, with simple rules, tips, and strategies on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SuDoku Change Log: ----------- 3.0.0: + Dramatically faster game generation & operation, smaller runtime memory footprint. (Whole new game state model based on CLR classes rather than an XML DOM.) + New UI controls optimized for Windows Mobile 6 & related hardware. + Merged Touchscreen / non-Touchscreen UI. Use keyboard, rocker, volume and/or stylus/mouse. 3.0.1 + Fixed a background color + Fixed a keyboard entry problem 3.0.2 + Fixed Smart Phone (Windows Mobile Standard Edition) Compatibiity 3.0.3 + Restored Smart Phone (Windows Mobile Standard Edition) file save/load functionality 3.1.0 + Optimized the assembly distribution to decouple core resources from primary implementation + Added Edgewater & Seasonal (monthly) color schemes. + Added the fancy new splash screen on startup. 3.1.1 + Added Color Schemes: Lemonade, Orange Cream Float, New England Fall, and Mayflower + Now persists color scheme selection between runs + Color Scheme Selection is now visible in menu + Seasonal color scheme selection is updated to include the new color schemes + Fixed a minor issue or two related to color scheme switching. 3.1.2 + Fixed Vista incompatibilities... 1) Settings & saved games now use the Application Data directory, rather than the EXE's directory. 2) Compact Framework apps must be MTAThread, but common dialogs on Vista require STAThread. When the app is running on Vista, it uses the simplified "SmartPhone" file save/load UI's. Requirements: ------------- For PC: Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 (available free for download from Microsoft) Recommended: 1GHz or faster processor for local game generation. For Pocket PC / Windows Mobile: Microsoft .Net Compact Framework 2.0 (also available for free from Microsoft) Internet connection for game generation service. (See below) Installation: ------------- If you have a Windows Mobile device that is compatible with the Microsoft .Net Compact Framework 2.0, make sure it is cradled and connected during installation. To install Jimmy SuDoku, simply start the provided JimmySudokuPCSetup.msi by double-clicking it. It will guide you through the rest of the intallation and setup process. The intall program will attempt to offer to install the .NET Compact Framework 2.0 to your device. This requires an Internet connection in order to download the general framework deployment kit. Please note: Windows Mobile 6.0 devices typically already have the 2.0 framework installed. If you have a 6.0 or later device, say no to this offer. Installation will complete successfully without it. Installation to Windows Mobile Devices: --------------------------------------------------------------- When ActiveSync is installed on the system, the JimmySudokuPCSetup.msi will deploy the application automatically to your connected device. Once Installed on the mobile device, you will find a "Jimmy SuDoku" icon in your Programs \ Games menu. Start Jimmy SuDoku by selecting that icon. Uninstallation: --------------- Uninstallation from PC & mobile device can be accomplished via the settings / Remove Programs on the mobile device, and the Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs on the desktop PC. Uninstallation must be performed on both systems; the PC uninstall will not remove the program from the mobile device. ABOUT THE .NET FRAMEWORK 2.0 & .NET COMPACT FRAMEWORK 2.0 --------------------------------------------------------- The .Net Compact Framework 2.0 is a FREE UPGRADE to your PC, Pocket PC or Windows Mobile device direct from Microsoft. Your PC or device came with version 1.0 or 1.1 of this powerful library. As of Version 2.0.3, the Jimmy SuDoku installer will ask you if you want to download and install the Microsoft Compact Framework 2.0 to your device. If you choose yes, the framework will be downloaded and installed on any compatible device. About Board Generation: ----------------------- In previous versions of Jimmy SuDoku, game generation for handheld devices was done remotely via web service. Starting with Jimmy SuDoku 3, the game generation algorithm is fast enough for older devices to generate puzzles in under 15 seconds. The web service lives on for Game of the Day support. Entering Games Manually: ------------------------ To enter a game manually, select Game / New / Blank. You may enter characters on the board in the same fashion as used while playing the game. Pencil marks, and undo / redo, file save / load, and character set features function the same, as well. You can use the "Check" feature to determine if the current state of the board is playable. When you're ready to play your new board, select Game / Reset Board. If the board is playable, it will be converted into a regular-mode game. DEMO mode: ---------- The demo mode of Jimmy SuDoku plays exactly the same as the non-demo version. Demo mode has game retrieval / generation and editing disabled. It is limited to play games that have been saved & loaded through the file menu. The regular and demo versions of Jimmy SuDoku come with at least one demo game file. A Jimmy SuDoku "Game of the Day" can be downloaded from within Jimmy SuDoku by selecting "Game of the Day" from the Puzzle menu.
